Clubs and Organizations

Whether transitioning to graduate school or returning to higher education, NSU’s graduate college is your next step. Choose from over 25 master's degrees and several certificate programs.

Assistantship Application

Students must complete the Assistantship Application (pdf) and submit it to the contact person listed for the position.

Assistantship positions are not available for NSU full-time or part-time employees.

Applications must be renewed for each academic year a student participates.

The form should be submitted by July 1 of each year for the upcoming year.

Assistantship Criteria

The following criteria must be met prior to applying:

Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university;

  1. Must be fully admitted as a regular status student to the Graduate College; Probationary, temporary, or provisional basis are not eligible to apply.

  2. A Plan of Study must be on file in the Graduate College Office.

  3. Entrance exam score must also be on file in the Graduate College Office.

    The assistantship recipient must enroll in and complete a minimum of six hours of graduate course work each semester while serving as a graduate assistant. International students must enroll in a minimum of nine hours each semester.

    The graduate assistant may teach a maximum of six semester hours per semester or serve a maximum of twenty clock hours per week in a laboratory or other non-teaching position. Positions must be relevant to the student's major.

  4. Additional criteria will be determined by the employing department and the nature of the particular assignment.

The applicant is responsible for contacting the appropriate administrator to apply for the position in which he/she is interested. Applications must be renewed each fall for the new academic year. Positions must be relevant to the student's major.

Graduate assistants receive $1,500 per semester for teaching three hours or working ten hours per week; $3,000 for teaching six hours or working twenty hours per week.

Graduate assistants are eligible for six hours of tuition waiver granted by the academic unit.

Completed application forms are forwarded to the Graduate College, Tahlequah campus, for determination of eligibility. When approved, a copy of the application will be forwarded to the appropriate academic unit. Academic units interview and determine employment of the applicant. Student must apply each July for the next academic year.
